  • How do you get to Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum?

Mahogany Bay is approximately 30 minutes from Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum and the Port of Roatan in Coxen Hole is just 15 minutes. Drive or take a taxi. The most convenient way is the main road that leads to Sandy Bay, West End, and West Bay turning on the the dirt road to the little community of Mud-Hole. After just  1 mile  watch for the signs on your right as you get close to Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum.

Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum is located in Roatan, on the main road to Mud-Hole just a four-minute drive from the paved road.

  • What kind of plants will be seen at Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum?

Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum features  spectacular horticultural exhibits.  Our Orchard has citrus trees bearing fruit like Persian Limes, Key Limes, grapefruit, Valencia oranges, avocados, and mangosteen. Display gardens showcase many exotic varieties of tropical flowers with many species of Heliconias, terrestrial orchids, and ginger plants including the pearl like shell ginger.

  • What kind of wildlife is found on the property?

The arboretum has a large pond, a perfect environment for turtles, shrimp and many species of water birds like Muscovy ducks, black bellied whistling duck, black headed coots, grebes, white egret and night heron. The property is also home to iguanas, agoutis (island rabbits), white tail deer and a huge variety of birdlife, insects and reptiles.  Not only will lovers of natural tropical beauty enjoy Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum but Bird Watchers are increasing in number.

It is recommended that you wear light clothing and comfortable walking shoes. Also bring a sun hat, sunscreen, bug spray and of course your camera. We also recommend bringing money for refreshments.

Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum is open all year round, except two weeks in October for maintenance. We have such a wide variety of plants and tropical fruit trees that you are guaranteed that something is always blooming or fruiting.
